Shri Ramesh Nagardas Damani, popularly known as RND, is a very popular and leading business man in Mumbai. He is the Managing Director of S. N. Damani Infra Pvt. Limited & Director of Sugal & Damani Group of Companies and Swati Hotels, New Delhi. 

He commenced his career as a cycle distributor in 1969 along with his brother Shri G. N. Damani.  In a short span of two decades, the group has spread its activities to several segments such as Lotteries, Real Estate, Tourism, Finance, Information Technology, Diamond Jewelry, Hospitality and Dyes & Chemicals.

Shri RND’s dynamism can be seen from the list of partnerships / directorships.  He holds keeping a busy schedule.

Shri RND always remembers the obligation to the society which has nurtured him.  He is a Committee Member of VHS (Voluntary Health Service), Cancer Institute, Saurashtra Jain Sangh, Saurashtra Welfare Trust, Jain Social Trust, JITO and many more.

He is one of the key personnel in establishing the following trusts which are engaged in range of social activities:

1. Smt. Shantaben Nagardas Damani Trust
2. Shri Nagardas Vallabhji Damani Charitable Trust
3. G. N. Damani Charitable Trust
4. Empathy Foundation (Sugal & Damani Group)

The prime focus is on health care and education amidst the list of charitable causes the trusts strive to improve.

The benefits provided are:

• School fees, stationery for school children
• Building, desks, chairs, boards and similar facilities for schools.
• Vans for transportation from distant areas.
• Mid-day meals and snacks to the children, helping needy parents thus preventing school dropouts.

The Awas Yojna of Smt. Shantaben Nagardas Damani Trust provided 55 homes to the under privileged in Chennai.

EMPATHY FOUNDATION

This has been established by Sugal & Damani Group of Companies at Mumbai. The prime object of this foundation is refinement of educational infrastructure for various schools in the state of Maharashtra. However, at a later period, it also diversified into social activities such as village infrastructure projects, village adoption etc.

This foundation helps in improving the quality of lives in rural areas by providing critical healthcare and education. It also undertakes educational and medical projects at Gram Panchayat & Zilla Parishad levels. Free eye camps, free distribution of spectacles, free of charge cataract surgery are also part and parcel of activities of this trust.

Empathy Foundation has constructed a total number of 115 schools till date. Under his able guidance, the Foundation has undertaken the task of constructing two schools viz. Smt. S. N. Damani Vidya Mandir & G. N. Damani High School in his native place Dhari, Gujarat.

The Foundation also aids in upgrading infrastructure facilities in schools in and around Maharashtra State. This involves construction of new class rooms, toilet blocks & water tanks and repairing of floor, roofs & compound walls.

Village Infrastructure Development:

Empathy foundation has worked with the local community in areas of acute water shortage to construct tube wells, bore wells, new ponds and retaining walls to conserve water.  Solar light was provided to Village Dhanvi (Dhangarwadi), Tal - Mahad, Dist. Raigad.

Shri R. N. Damani also tries to extend a helping hand in times of need to the under-privileged and this has been borne by the monthly list of medical aid given to Chennai Medical Mission, Dr. J. Jayalalitha Nagar, Mogappair, Chennai.

Shri RND has widely traveled to many parts of Europe, Australia, China, Malaysia, Middle East etc. to widen and establish his knowledge about world.

He is happily married to Kalpana and they have 2 sons and 2 daughters.  The Damani’s live in Mumbai.
